Sitabani Forest
No permit rush, no closed season, and wonderful birds
Sitabani sits just outside the tiger reserve boundary, so it does not need a core park permit. It is open all year, easy to arrange at short notice, and quietly one of the loveliest places to spend a morning near Corbett.
Sitabani is technically a reserve forest, not part of the Corbett tiger reserve core. That single fact changes everything about how you visit it.
Why that matters to you

If your core zone permit did not come through, or you have an extra half day, or you are visiting in the monsoon, Sitabani saves the trip.
What it is actually like
Grassland, sal forest, seasonal streams and complete quiet. Bird life is superb — this is one of the better birding spots in the whole Corbett landscape. Elephant, deer, leopard and wild boar all move through, and tigers do pass through the area, though seeing one is a bonus rather than an expectation.
There is also the old Sitabani temple in the forest, connected in local belief to Sita from the Ramayana, which gives the place its name and a very particular atmosphere.
Be honest with yourself
Sitabani is not a substitute for a core zone safari if a tiger is the whole point of your trip. It is a beautiful, peaceful, bird-rich forest morning. Go in expecting that and you will love it.
